About Dublin

Dublin is the largest city and capital of Ireland, with a population of 2 million people. Like many European capitals, it too was founded on the banks of a river. The Liffey River divides the city into two; one one side lies O'Connell Avenue, Henry Avenue, and Talbot Avenue, and can be considered the heart of the city. O'Connell Avenue in particular is an unparalleled shopping destination, while St. Andrew's Church is a landmark and meeting destination for both tourists and locals.

Other places worth seeing in the area include: Chester Beatty Library, Christ Church Cathedral, St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Dublin Chateau, the Dublin Writers' Museum, Dublin Zoo, and Merrion Square. Beer lovers can visit the Guinness Museum while theatre fans can visit the Abbey and Gaiety Theatres.

Even though Dublin has a northern location, it enjoys a temperate and moderate climate due to the Gulf Stream effect. The temperature never climbs above 20 degrees in the summer, or below 10 degrees in the winter. Two airports are located in Dublin; as it is home to RyanAir, one of Europe's first low-cost airlines, it shouldn't be difficult to find a cheap ticket to the city from another European capital. The city is also notably wheelchair-accessible.

Transportation to Dublin City Center from Airport

Dublin Airport

Dublin is also known as "the capital not only of Ireland but also the literature" since it is the hometown of the famous literature figures such as James Joyce, Bernard Shaw, and Jack London. The airport is only 10 kilometers north of the city.

It is possible to get to Parnell Square and O'Connell in the city center by the metro line called "Northern Metro" from the airport.

The metro which departs from the ground floor of the airport terminals reaches the station in Parnell Square and O’Connell/Abbey St. stations in O'Connell in half an hour. The buses departing from the Parnell Square, which is a big park, provide transportation service to all parts of the city as well as they offer transfer option to the rail system lines, especially to the south and east lines, through the metro stations.

Airport Buses

Dublin Airport, which is the most important airport in the Republic of Ireland, is also the busiest airport in Ireland together with Belfast Airport. Both airports serve the people on the entire island and the buses carry passengers between the airport and the various regions. The private shuttle buses of Air Link and Air Coach companies provide transportation service between the airport and Dublin city center.

Buses depart every 15 or 30 minutes. The buses of both companies go up to O'Connell.

City Buses

It is also possible to reach the city center from the airport by city buses. You can get to Parnell Square in 25 minutes by bus number 747, which departs every 20 minutes from the airport.

In addition, the buses 16, 16C, 33, 41 and 41C departing from the airport will also take you to various points at Parnell Square.

Taxi

It takes about 20 minutes to reach O'Connell in the city center by taxi departing from the gates of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
