About Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan, a Central Asian country, is one of the seven independent Turkic states. It shares borders with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and China, without having a coastline. The country has a continental climate, with a large part covered by mountains, earning it the nickname 'Switzerland of Central Asia' due to the Tian Shan Mountains, which make up 65% of the land. Warm desert winds are felt at lower elevations, while higher altitudes are influenced by cold air.
The country's economy relies mainly on agriculture, livestock, and mining. Industrial establishments, including hydroelectric power plants along rivers, play a significant role. Kyrgyzstan has over 600 industrial facilities, hosting factories for machinery, automotive, food, glass, and canning production. In recent years, tourism has seen significant growth, with activities like hiking, skiing, mountaineering, sailing, and swimming being popular due to the country's mountainous regions and lakes.
Golf tourism is popular in the summer, and winter sports tourism thrives in the colder months. Camping is also possible in the mountainous regions during the transitional periods of spring. Although Kyrgyz has been the official language since 1991, Russian is also widely spoken, and the official currency is the Kyrgyzstani Som (KGS).
The capital of Kyrgyzstan is Bishkek, boasting numerous structures and green spaces to visit and explore. Bishkek stands out among impressive cities with its monuments, structures, squares, and museums.
Osh is known as the center of silk production along the Silk Road. The city of Karakol is quite appealing with its thermal springs, and the entirely wooden Holy Trinity Cathedral in this city is a must-see structure. In the Issyk Kul region of the country, a type of equestrian sport called "At Chabysh" is practiced in November.
Dishes like Beshbarmak, Dimlama, Kuurdak, and Shashlik hold a significant place in the country's traditional palate. Foods made from milk and dairy products are also among Kyrgyzstani flavors. Additionally, "kymyz," made from mare's milk, is known as one of the Kyrgyz people's most important beverages.
