Transportation to Airport from Honolulu City Center

Honolulu International Airport can be reached from the city centre by taxi or with a rented vehicle in around 15 minutes. Some hotels offer their guests a shuttle service, which is a practical alternative.  Although construction works on the Honolulu Rail Transit Project is ongoing, travellers that prefer to use public transportation to and from the airport should use the bus until the railway line is complete.

Taxi

Taxis are readily available outside the arrivals terminal. Travel to the city centre by taxi can take approximately 15 minutes. You can rent a vehicle suitable to your budget through car rental companies inside the airport, and drive to the city centre by using the routes I-H-1 E and H-92 E. Considering traffic, the trip from the airport to the city centre usually takes 15 minutes.

Bus

Travellers that prefer to use public transport can use bus routes 19, 20, and 31 to reach different areas of the city. The bus station is located outside of the arrivals terminal.  A one-way ticket costs 2.5 dollars.

Hotel Shuttle Service

Many accommodation options in Honolulu provide shuttle services to guests. You can book a hotel shuttle service for a faster and more comfortable journey. Please be aware that while some hotels provide shuttle services for free, others charge additional fees.

Airport Information

Located 3 miles from the city centre, the Honolulu International Airport is a small airport, but has all the services and facilities expected from an airport. The architectural features of the airport provide plenty of open space. Other than cafes and restaurants, the airport offers accessory stores, a store that sells toys, two lounges and a conference hall.

There are a variety of transportation alternatives to get to the city center from the airport. Renting a car is a comfortable method of transportation to get to the city center, and to get around in the city during your trip. There are several rental car companies located at the airport. Those who don’t want to drive in traffic can choose to take a taxi to the city center from the airport. Those who want a more affordable option can choose to take a bus or shuttle to the city center from the airport. 

Taxi

McCarran International Airport features over 10 taxi companies that provide service to the city center. Taxis are a convenient way to get to downtown Las Vegas from the airport. There are two routes taxis can take from the airport to the city center. Taxis can go from the freeway, which ends up being a bit faster, or through the city, which is a bit more scenic as you drive down the strip but can be longer depending on traffic. Not all taxis accept credit card payments so make sure to ask the driver beforehand. Taxis are easily accessible at the terminal exits.

Bus

Buses are another method of transportation to get to the city center from the airport. Buses are a more affordable option compared to taxis. Bus routes 108 109, and the Westcliff Airport Express route serve Terminal 1; these buses are accessible from level 0. The Westcliff Airport Express and Centennial Express routes serve Terminal 3; these buses are accessible from the departures curb on level 2. Bus tickets can be purchased from the automatic ticket machines located next to the stops. You can use a credit card and purchase an hourly pass or daily pass. Shuttle

Shuttle buses are another transportation alternative to get to the city center from the airport. These group shuttles provide convenient transportation to downtown Las Vegas, making multiple stops along the way. Service providers such as Airline Shuttle and Showtime Tours provide shuttle services to most major hotels/resorts in the city 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These shuttles are accessible at the terminal exits with airport personnel ready to help passengers if needed. Rental Car

Renting a car at the airport is another convenient way to get to the city and enjoy the city during your trip. You can rent a car from the McCarran Rent-A-Car Center, which is accessible using a free shuttle service. The shuttle service to the Rental Car Center is blue and white. After you land just follow the signs to Ground Transportation, which will guide you to the Rental Car Shuttle area. You can also return your vehicle at the Rental Car Center before your departure at the end of your trip. Rental car companies that you can choose from include Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Hertz, and Thrifty.
