About Frankfurt

Economically speaking, Frankfurt is one of Germany’s most important and well-known cities, not surprising as it is home to the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and European Central Bank.

Located in the basin of the Rhine River, the city is divided into two by the Main River. One side of the river is home to the old town, the other to high-rise buildings. Commerzbank Tower, where most of the banks have their headquarters, is the most famous skyscraper in Frankfurt. Pharmaceutical and automotive companies are seated here as well. There are trade shows almost all year round, and fairs such as the book fair, or the automotive and boat shows are particularly popular. Being a city of trade shows, it follows that there are quite a number of options for accommodation. Inner-city transportation is highly developed. The train and subway networks are extensive. The river, too, is used for transportation and freight forwarding purposes.

Frankfurt has a humid climate. Although it is warm in the summer, there are occasional rains. Winters, on the other hand, are generally cold and snowy. The average temperature is around 24℃ in the summer, and below 0℃ in the winter. In Frankfurt, you can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the city from the top of the Commerzbank Tower; take a walk along the river; go to the Römer Square in the old town; visit the Opera House, St. Paul’s Church, or the Liebieghaus Museum that boasts a comprehensive Egyptian collection.

One should rather be watchful in this city as it has a relatively high crime rate, one of the highest in Europe. The Frankfurt International Airport serves the city. There are taxis, buses and trains to the city center, and the trip takes about 15 minutes by train.
