Built in 1935, the Odin Tower was the most magnificent structure of the city in those years. The tower, which is the second highest tower in Europe after the Eiffel Tower in Paris, was destroyed by a Nazi group in 1944. A new tower was not built; but a miniature replica is exhibited at Odin Park, where it was opened at first. Hans Christian Andersen is the cultural and tourism symbol of the city and therefore the whole country. He was born in 1805 in this city. The museum where the objects about his life and all his works are exhibited, and the house where the writer was born are among the main tourist attractions. Andersen died in Copenhagen in 1875. St. Knud Church, Egeskov Castle, Funen Town, Danish Railway Museum and St. Alban Church are among the interesting tourist attractions of the city. The city is under the influence of the northern climate. Summers are short and winters are long, and mostly cloudy and rainy. Hans Christian Andersen Airport, a small airport, is 12 kilometers from the city center.
