About Bam
Located in the Kerman province of Iran, Bam is the capital of the Bam county, which carries its own name. Situated at the southwestern coast of the Lut Desert, Bam is one of the remarkable cities of Iran. Its economy is based on tourism and agriculture. The city is prominently known for date production, followed by citrus and cotton production. Products are exported through the port of Bandar Abbas.
The main religion in the city, where a population around 78.000 people live in, is Islam. City of Bam, which was listed by UNESCO in 1993 as a World Heritage site, is now under protection. Rebuilding works continue in Bam, which was devastated by the earthquake in 2003.
