About Aqaba

Aqaba, Jordan’s only costal city, is a major trading center situated on the Gulf of Aqaba. The city’s population is around 70,000. The strategically important city has a Mediterranean climate. Winter months are cool and rainy and the temperatures during the summer go up very high. Scuba diving and watersports are quite advanced in Aqaba. You can easily visit the Red Sea on a yacht or boat tour. Major tourist areas of the city include the Aqaba Fortress, Aqaba Archaeological Museum, and the Ayla Archaeological site.

The Aqaba Water Festival, Aqaba Traditional Arts Festival and the Jerash Festival held in the city are festivals that organize important touristic events. Aqaba features many fine dining restaurants that offer traditional Jordanian cuisine. Among the most important traditional dishes are mansaf (lamb served with yogurt and rice), the country’s national dish, and malfuf (rice and meat in cabbage leaves). In addition, the cafes located throughout the city offer various dishes from international cuisine. Since it is a coastal city Aqaba has a marina where you can enjoy an elegant dinner.

The city has many shopping centers that offer both local products as well as world-famous brands. It is easy to reach Aqaba from the King Hussein International Airport.
