About Corrientes

The city of Corrientes, which is located on the east bank of the Paraná River, is also the capital of Corrientes state on National Route 12. Corrientes is 300 km to Posadas and 1000 km away from Buenos Aires. It has an excellent location at the intersection of Parana and Paraguay rivers. You can also visit the historical buildings in the city center, where there are colorful buildings restored in the early 20th century. Furthermore, you can find many gift shops where you can find local handicraft products in the city square called Plaza 25 de Mayo. Besides, you will have the chance to taste the flavors of Argentine cuisine by visiting the square. After visiting the city square, which is close to the Parana River and Corrientes Port, you can go to Museo Casa Martinez, which gives hints on the city's past. You can examine the anthropological works closely in the museum, which is located in one of the oldest buildings of Corrientes. If you are lucky enough, you can watch the performances in the theater building called as Teatro Juan de Vera. Antique furniture, coins and items reflecting religious and political history of the city are exhibited on the Museo Histórico de Corrientes. You can also see many traditional handicrafts at the Museo de Artesanías Tradicionales Folclóricas museum.

In Costanera, which is one of the famous parks in the city, you can go to eating and drinking places, and have a good time on the hiking trails by yourself. Chamame National Festival is held in the amphitheater in the city square every year in January and it is one of the most popular festivals in the South American continent. You can also give a chance to the Cultural Fridays (originally named Viernes Cultural en Casa Iberá) in Casa Iberá, where entrance is all free. Furthermore, you can go to Chipá mboká stall in Costanera y Dom Bosco and try bread with manioc cheese. You can also taste pastries unique to Argentinian cuisine in La Reina that is located in Mendoza 847.
