About Somalia

Somalia, located in the Horn of Africa, is one of the countries in the region with a rich historical past. Somalia held a significant place among the world's trade centers for centuries. Unfortunately, it has lost its former glory and is often associated with famine and poverty nowadays. Despite its considerable underground wealth, Somalia has struggled to recover its economy due to internal conflicts, making it difficult to extract its mineral resources. As a result, most of the population primarily relies on livestock and farming for their livelihoods.
Most of the population in Somalia is Muslim, with a small non-Muslim community living alongside them.
Strategically situated at the intersection of the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, Somalia shares its borders with Djibouti to the northwest, Kenya to the southwest, Yemen to the north, and Ethiopia to the west.
Somalia boasts the longest coastline in continental Africa and experiences a generally hot and arid climate. Temperature variations are substantial between coastal areas, which can exceed 40 degrees Celsius, and in higher-altitude regions, temperatures may drop to around 20 degrees Celsius. The best time to visit Somalia is typically between July-September and December-March.
Mogadishu, one of the oldest inhabited places on Earth and the capital of Somalia is a must-visit. Travelers should explore the Arba-Rucun Mosque, a sacred place for Muslims, and the historic site of Shanghai Old City.
In addition to these unique structures, visitors can embark on thrilling desert journeys through safari tours. The captivating Laas Geel rock art in Hargeisa, the National Park in Kismayo, and the water sports areas in Berbera are also remarkable places to explore.
The Fire Festival, celebrated in July, draws large crowds with dance performances around the fire. On June 26th each year, National Independence Day features renowned artists who entertain the public, making it one of the country's most significant social events.
In Somalia, a predominantly Muslim country, all meat dishes are prepared according to Islamic rules. On the other hand, due to infertile land, finding vegetable dishes is nearly impossible. Some must-try examples are soor, a meal made from maize flour and meat, and anjero, a pancake-like meal.
