About San Antonio

San Antonio, with 1.3 million inhabitants, is the second largest city in the state of Texas. Founded on the San Antonio River, this touristic city is visited by 25 million people a year and is one of Texas' most popular destinations. Summers are hot; it is a convenient place to visit in winter because of its warm, mild climate. Running through the center of the city is the main reason why its attracts so many tourists: the Riverwalk. Inspired by Venetian architecture, it is a long canal that winds through the downtown, surrounded by pedestrian-only walkways, lush trees and parks, and many hotels, bars, restauraunts, and cafes on each bank. In addition, the Alamo is one of the city's landmark historic buildings, and tourists are also drawn to the National Historical Park, the Botanical Gardens, the San Antonio Aquarium and Zoo, and the Japanese Tea Gardens.

In addition to the city attractions, the surrounding countryside of San Antonio, including Landa Park, Texas Hill Country, Friedrich Wilderness Park, and Schlitterbahn Water Park can also be visited. The city was founded by Spanish colonists, and it is a historic city that was site to a large battle between Anglo Texans and Mexican soldiers.

Only three hours from the border with Mexico, San Antonio has also a distinct Latin-influenced culture and atmosphere. Many imported goods from Mexico can be found in various stores around the area. In addition, you can find both authentic Mexican food as well as "Tex-Mex" cuisine in various restauraunts around the city. There are also many places where you can enjoy live Latin music.

Held in March every year, "San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Festival" is one of the city's most popular events and draws thousands of tourists.  San Antonio International Airport is located north of the city center, around 13 km away and a 15 minute drive. There is a bus to the city center, with shuttle or taxi transportation can be provided.
